Statement

It was before I was 20 years old that I realized that color has depth.

At that time, I was looking at the "Broadway Boogie Woogie" page in Piet Mondrian's art book at the library.
I began to wonder, what is the "definition of lines"?
Being interested in the height of color and the characteristics of lines was what lead to my thesis on "what is the painting?"

Walking through a familiar city, observing the visible scenery closely, I often ignore the functions that a substance has and may see a three-dimensional scenery as two-dimensional things.
Different times flow in the familiar city every day, and It's under different emotions every day. Different views of the same city can be seen under different conditions.
One day, I was ecstatic about the dynamics of leaves falling down like a dance with wind.

I seem to be interested in the conditions that make a landscape look different and the effects wind and gravity have when leaves fall.
There are many things that I notice later about myself.

My creation begins with observing the environment in which the work is placed and thinking about how the piece and that environment can interact.
And most of the time, I make a rule and an algorithm towards a vague and clear image (contradiction).

For instance, it feels like an experience where there are countless moments when I find something that attracts me on my journey while holding a map causing me to forget about my destination.

As I try to start my creation, the vague and clear images gradually become visible physical substances.
I greet them as they start to appear in front of me by saying, "Nice to meet you".

I can't always remember how I arrived at my final destination.
I have been noticing just recently individual subtle colors are influenced by the weather, the emotions of the moment and lines with innumerable different feelings. I will keep considering what is hard to catch, maximize and find the abilities that they originally have that they cannot exert on just their own. That is what "to create a painting" is for me.

I see things like a map: the relationship between the color of objects in relation to each other affects the depth of which I perceive them; when I see books lined up on the desk, I see organic and inorganic lines among them.

When I began creating art, I tried to instill what I perceive into my work. I painted on paper and then began to cut the paper. I was overwhelmed to discover that by physically holding the pieces of paper I painted, I was better able to capture the sensation and experience of how I perceive color and line. By going beyond the simple use of paint on a frame piece of canvas alone, I am able to impart a more accurate depiction of what I see.

This lead me to consider, what is a painting? How do other aspects of creating work with paint transgress this definition? This has become the fundamental idea I am doubt with.
